We are looking for a results-driven, energetic professional with a can-do attitude to join our team. The Director of M&A and Strategic Partnerships – Fintech will drive growth and ecosystem expansion, leading acquisitions, investments, and strategic alliances that accelerate growth and strengthen market position. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on execution, requiring strong transaction expertise, governance, and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute M&A strategy in line with growth and diversification objectives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and lead acquisitions and investments in fintech, telco, and adjacent digital sectors (e.g., data, payments, embedded finance).
  • Manage end-to-end transaction execution: origination, due diligence, negotiation, closing, and integration.
  • Prepare investment proposals and presentations for Executive Committee and Board approval.
  • Lead global partnership strategy to expand commercial reach, product portfolio, and technology ecosystem.
  • Identify, structure, and negotiate strategic alliances with MNOs, financial institutions, and technology partners.
  • Translate partnership frameworks into actionable plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor performance of ongoing partnerships and ensure compliance with agreed milestones.
  • Track market trends, competitor activity, and investment movements across fintech, telco, and adjacent sectors.
  • Maintain a structured target database for M&A and partnership opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Strategy and Finance teams to evaluate opportunities based on strategic and financial criteria.
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to the CSO, CEO, and Board.
  • Build and maintain strong networks with investment banks, advisory firms, and industry partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Economics; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in M&A, corporate development, strategy consulting, or investment banking, preferably in fintech, financial services, or technology.
  • Proven track record in leading complex, cross-border transactions and strategic partnerships.
  • Strong experience in multi-stakeholder management and cross-functional coordination.
  • Familiarity with emerging markets (Africa, the Middle East, Asia) and local regulatory environments.
  • Strategic and commercial acumen with strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Highly organised with process discipline and governance mindset.
  • Able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams under tight timelines.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced multicultural environment.
  • Executive presence, confident engaging with senior management and Board members.
